On Monday I showed you the first set of Li'l Abner strips I clipped during a one-year revival of the strip, distributed after creator Al Capp’s death by the NEA Syndicate. Today’s collection is part 2.

Li'l Abner’s short-lived '80s comic strip re-issues, part 1
In 1988 Al Capp’s comic creations, the Li’l Abner comic strip, featuring the cast of characters in Abner’s hometown of Dogpatch, and the incredible creatures called the Shmoos, were re-released by the NEA Syndicate. It was an effort, like the later and more successful re-releasing of the Peanuts comic strips by Charles Schulz, to keep the strip before the public, and generating revenue. Unlike Peanuts, the new run of Li'l Abner only lasted one year. The original strip folded in 1977 when Capp’s emphysema made him too ill to continue. He died in 1979 at age 70.
I cut the strips out of my hometown newspaper, and have scanned the strips dated October 3, 1988 to January 3, 1989. I'm showing the first half today, and the second half on Thursday. Whether I get around to scanning the balance of strips I clipped I haven’t yet decided.
