The beauty of Milton Caniff’s artwork matches the beauty of pin-up Miss Lace in the classic strip, MALE CALL, done for GI newspapers during World War II.
A hardbound compilation from Simon and Schuster came out in 1945, and contained 112 strips. I'm showing half of them today. Come back Thursday for the rest.
These are great! I've never seen these before...pretty risque for '45, I guess. Those "headlights" almost poked me in the eye a couple of times!
ReplyDeleteCartoons and comics for GI's could get away with a lot of sexy stuff that cartoonists in family newspapers could not even attempt. I liked your reference to "headlights." Thanks for the comments.
