During his writing career, Philip K. Dick (1928-1982), was known for his science fiction novels and short stories. His stories began appearing in genre publications in 1952. This story, "The Hanging Stranger," was originally published in
Science Fiction Adventures, Volume 2 Number 1, December 1953. Due to the posthumous adaptations of some of his most famous novels into motion pictures (
Blade Runner,
The Man in the High Castle, etc.) he has reached an audience undreamed of during his lifetime.
I found the scans for this story on the Internet Archive site. I brightened them for easier reading.
