  1. THANK YOU! I had this book as a kid and loved it. I always thought it was because I admired Lincoln... but I found I admired Jack Davis more!(And I'm not as shallow as it sounds!)

  2. Would this book have been as interesting if it wasn't illustrated by Davis? Maybe. But having Jack Davis work his pen-and-ink magic, his love of the civil war era, and his flair for action and the dramatic raises the book beyond the ordinary type of biography written for kids.
